Back Door Blues

No news regarding the closing on the house yet…I feel like a broken record.  The little bright spot in the situation  yesterday was that the listing agent gave us permission to install the back door to the house, which has been propped against the wall on the patio.  This excited me to no end, since I have visions of our future home being open to wildlife, the elements, vandals and hoboes.

I bought screws at Home Depot after I dropped K off at school and, when hubs got home from work, we armed ourselves with flashlights and a toolbox and rushed over to the house.

Hubby put the door up to the opening.  “This is the wrong door.”   “What??”  “It’s too big.”  Sure enough, the door wouldn’t even fit into the opening.  Well, did that take the air out of our sails!

“Maybe the door is stashed somewhere else in the house.”  We searched every room – no luck.

“Well, where DOES this door go?”  We looked around at all the openings and couldn’t find a place that the door had once hung.   Since it was dark and cold, we decided to go home and mull this over.

As we were watching TV, I had an epiphany. (Hey!  I can have them, too!)  Perhaps we should have carried the door INSIDE and held it up to the opening – perhaps the opening was just a little narrower on the outside than it was on the inside.  Hubby agreed that it was worth a look, so we’re going to check out my theory Saturday morning…here’s hoping it fits!

I’ll cross my fingers for ya! I think creating a house is a bit like creating a quilt– occasionally you gotta take those leftover mismatched pieces and put them together just so… and voila! Something beautiful emerges 🙂
