The House of Anubis

K. and I are hooked on a new TV show on Nickelodeon, “The House of Anubis.” I like for us to watch TV as a family rather than separately, so it’s nice to find something that we both enjoy. Hubs would probably enjoy it, too, if he could stay awake that long, but by that time of night, he’s usually snoring in his easy chair 😮

The show is a nice departure from all the sitcoms on Nick and Disney and from the more mature “Trashy Degrassi” (as I call it) and “Gigantic”. It’s basically a mystery set at a boarding school in England. Nina, the new student from America, arrives just as Joy, another student disappears. The House of Anubis is an old house on campus where Nina and 7 other students stay.

The house apparently hold many secrets: hidden compartments and passages, clues, relics, a menacing head of the house who talks to his stuffed bird, a mysterious society which all the adults at the school seem to be part of, an elixir of life which grants immortality, an old lady who gives Nina a locket which has magical powers in the house, and many more. There’s a cliffhanger at the end of each show — it reminds me of the serials I watched as a kid…lots of fun! If someone misses watching an episode, the old ones are available to watch for free on Nick’s web site.

Nick has been showing “The House of Anubis” each weeknight for about the past 3 weeks, but they’re taking a break this week, I think for Valentine-themed shows. It’s supposed to be back on the schedule on Mon., Feb. 14th, so think about settling on the sofa then with your favorite kid(s) for some TV viewing fun 😮
