Stapled Wires = Extra Work

This past weekend Jim worked on the bathroom wall – he had to move a set of light switches so that the wall can become the back of a linen closet. Here’s a before and after shot of his handiwork:

Notice how, in the second photo, the triple light switch is out, and all the wires have been pulled back through the studs and are hanging down from the ceiling. Getting them out was pretty tricky…Jim couldn’t get them to budge and figured they were stapled to the studs, which wasn’t accessible even with that wall down. He had to go around to the wall behind and cut holes to get to all the places they were stapled.

However, the area he needed to cut was covered by one of those huge vanity mirrors. We had to get that down…once it was loose, we found we couldn’t pull the mirror out because it was blocked by the medicine cabinet mirror on the side. I held the mirror while Jim hurriedly removed the medicine cabinet. Then we found it was blocked by the faucet on the sink…I held the mirror again while Jim scrambled around removing the sink faucet. Success was ours – the mirror came out and Jim got to make his cuts in the drywall to get to the stapled wires!
