All Hooked Up

Jim hooked our irrigation system up to the city’s reclaimed water system this weekend…it involved lots of sweat, digging, dirt and two showers!

The hardest part was locating the point at which the irrigation system was hooked up to the county water supply, so that he could disconnect it. Jim decided that the logical place to look was at the backflow preventer near the house:

After a good bit of digging, Jim decided to change tactics and start out at the water meter near the street, with better luck this time. He dug out from the meter a little (in photo below on left) and found where the irrigation pipe tapped into the water supply. He dug a new trench to the reclaimed supply box (on right in photo) and, after 2 trips to Home Depot for pipe and fittings, got it all hooked up! Now we wait for the City and the Reclaimed Water Dept. to come out at 8 a.m. tomorrow and do an inspection. Then we can put it to use.
