And Now We’re Irrigating!

Jim’s hook-up to the City’s reclaimed water supply passed inspection without a hitch on Wednesday.  The next issue was to take a look at the irrigation controller to get it set up.  Let me say, this thing is ANCIENT…

My engineer hubby and my engineer-minded daughter scrutinized this dinosaur and figured out how everything worked. The first thing was to set the correct time, which they did by lining the big dial up with an arrow on the brown knob at the lower right. We decided to run the sprinklers from 12 a.m. to 3 a.m. on our watering days, Monday and Thursday. We set the irrigation window by positioning the little black gizmo with teeth between 12 and 3:

When the time dial spins around, the teeth catch the brown knob on the right and turn it, causing the system to go through the 4 watering zones. The next challenge was to program our 2 watering days…this involved piddling with a little day set gear at the top right:

We had to remove 2 of the little white pins on the day set gear, which corresponded with our 2 watering days…that look a little figuring, but we finally got it done. Once everything was all set, we looked for the cover to put back on – what a surprise to discover that all the setup instructions were inside the cover door! *LOL*

Oh, well, it was a lot more fun figuring it out for ourselves. At the end of the instructions, there was a note that you could order a repeat tripper gear (the little black-toothed gizmo) by sending 80 cents to the sprinkler company (CA and NV residents, please include sales tax) *LOL*

By the way, we ran the system that night, and it worked like a charm 😮
