Well, the dreaded day came a few days ago – Jim was ready to work on the master closets and needed to know for absolutely-positively-sure what kind of doors we’re going to put on them. I closed out my poll, and I have to say, the results were pretty inconclusive – the first 2 options got exactly the same amount of votes, while the third option was just slightly less…it was like the “Ask the Audience” option on “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” where the results are spread evenly among all the choices!
What we ended up choosing was kind of a hybrid version of option #2, the door opening in…thanks to a suggestion by my sister Pat, we’re going with a DOUBLE door opening in – it will look something like this:
(Ignore the little chunk of wall where the 2 doors meet – it won’t be there…I just couldn’t get the software to make it go away.) With this option, the doors will open in and not block the hallway, but being only a half-width door each, they won’t block much of the interior, and you can just close one panel to get to whatever’s behind it.
Once we decided on a door, the next challenge was to actually FIND said door to purchase…we want the closed doors to match the 6-panel doors in the rest of the master. That meant finding a 15″ wide 3-panel slab door. We ended up ordering 4 of these from Home Depot the other day for $41 ea. I thought it was interesting that they actually had an 18″ wide 3-panel slab door in stock for $19, but to get a smaller door cost $22 more – go figure! Here is a slightly dark photo I pulled off “Steven’s Gallery” on Picasa of the type of door we’re getting.
Now we wait a couple of weeks for the doors to arrive, but Jim can go ahead and frame out the closet, which he’s busy doing – pictures to come shortly!
