Sweet 16 (Part II) – The Rest of the Birthday

(For the first part of the story, see “Sweet 16 (Part I) – The Driver’s Test“.)

With her driver’s license acquired, K. could finally relax and enjoy her birthday – she and I were both giddy with relief.  We got home and found some lovely flowers and balloons by the front door – sixteen pink roses…thank you, Papaw!

Jim came home for lunch and Miss Antsy-Pants couldn’t wait to open her gifts. She got a couple of pieces of her retired Vera Bradley pattern, “Pinwheel Pink”. She likes the unusual items and keeps them as collectibles, so we got her a post-it note box and a little lamp.

Here’s a laundry list of what she got:
– Babycakes cupcake maker
– Lighted makeup mirror
– Head massager
– Makeup tray
– Braun epilator
– Piggy Wiggy cooking utensils
– Oink Oink pump-action flashlight
Mom had a great time shopping at Bed Bath & Beyond 🙂

And she couldn’t stop smiling when she opened her last gift, an iPad 2! {Source}
In a happy coincidence, she and her dad were unable to get the iPad attached to iTunes, and in the meanwhile, she decided she’d rather have a black one instead of a white one. So the white iPad went back into the box unaltered to be returned to the Apple store.

Later that day, K. got a text birthday wish from her old best friends in Orlando. She called and they discovered that they all had iPhones, so this led to an impromptu FaceTime chat which lasted an hour! I had never seen FaceTime work, but it was so COOL – the girls could show each other all kinds of things – party decorations and K’s dress, new kittens, art projects, our new house – it just went on and on!

That evening, we celebrated with the birthday girl’s choice of dinner – a Little Caesar’s pepperoni pizza, bread sticks and marinara sauce, and some pepperoni and cheese bread.

The next day involved a trip to the Apple store, only to find out that they were out of the black iPad she wanted.  We decided to take a gift card and try to order it on-line.  Back home, we kicked the party preparations into high gear.

On Friday night, she had 8 kids over (7 from drama class and 1 from the campground) for her party.  What a great group!  K. had dressed up in true Sweet 16 style – she had on a cute party dress, with a tiara and sash. The house was decorated with every Sweet 16 accessory conceivable.

The star of the snack table was a Wilton Pro Chocolate Fountain, which the kids LOVED. {Source}

There was a gorgeous cake, which K. designed down to the last detail:

There was lots of chatter, music, dancing, and laughing – hopefully it was a Sweet 16 memory that K. will always treasure.
