Waiting to Close

We are waiting to close on our house…I’ve been working on lining up homeowners insurance coverage and should have that taken care of today.  The listing agent still says he’s working towards closing by the end of the week – hmmm, that’s 2 days.  I think he’s an optimist.

We can’t wait to get started on updating the house.  One of the first things we want to do is to remove the dated popcorn ceilings, and retexture them.  In doing some research, I discovered that many popcorn ceilings have asbestos in them.  It was banned in 1978, but existing inventory was allowed to be used, so it’s possible that houses in the early 80’s could have asbestos.  Our house was built in 1983.  We will need to have ceiling samples tested before we began removing it, and we hope, hope, HOPE that it will not contain asbestos.  That would really make life a lot easier.
