Yesterday we had a bit of fun. Jim had taken the county property appraiser’s basic floor plan of the house we’re buying:
Then he CADerized it (not to be confused with cauterized it), and took his best shot on where the walls were:
We printed it out and took it over to the house yesterday and got the actual measurements in all the rooms. Then hubs and K. drew the floor plan in her 3-D home designer program and came up with this:
We discovered a few surprises, like jogs in the walls where we didn’t realize there were jogs. The nicest surprise was that the half bath, which we want to convert to a full bath, is wide enough to accommodate a tub/shower without having to move a wall.
The 3-D floor plan is going to help a lot with planning for furniture placement, estimating flooring materials, and remodeling. It’s also a great unschooling project for K.
Very cool!
You have a lot to do… Good thing your and hubby now have the possible help of Kevin. This is quite the project and you are, fortunately, up for it. 🙂
Have a great week ahead!

Lots of potential—but I see some walls coming down! Why did they need 3 living spaces?
Do you mean the little den at the back of the house? I’m not sure, it may have been a “man’s room”…plus it had french doors out to the patio and a view of the water. It also has stained beadboard wainscoting and copper-colored paint on the ceiling – very masculine-looking.
